The City Museum’s four historically restored apartments in different parts of the city show how Stockholmers, rich and poor, have lived in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Our apartments

Our apartments and houses are located in four different neighbourhoods. They give an insight into the homes and lives of some families between 1884 and 1969.

The Blockmaker’s House 1917

Experience how a working-class family lived in Stockholm at the beginning of the 20th century.

Barnrikehuset 1937

Good, modern housing for families with many children and low incomes.

During this era, kitchens served as vibrant family hubs, characterised by bold colour combinations and a love for modern plastics. Photos on the page: Alexander Mahmoud.
