Chamber Music: In Rustling Veils, at Sea with Evert Taube

Date: January 2026

Time:

Location: City Museum, Auditorium floor 2

Price: 160–320 SEK

An afternoon where lyricism meets playfulness, and Sweden’s song tradition is reborn in a modern soundscape.

This evocative program of songs and chamber music takes you on a journey in tone and text. We follow legendary sailor-poet Evert Taube from coast to coast — from the Stockholm archipelago, out into the world, and home again. Through music and storytelling, you’ll meet both the young, dreamy Fritiof Andersson and the pleasure-loving, aging Rönnerdahl — two of Taube’s most beloved alter egos.

The program features a rich palette of ballads, waltzes, and songs — perhaps even a hymn. Love, sea breezes, and sunlit adventures intertwine in a beautiful musical landscape. Guitar and double bass provide accompaniment in arrangements that blend the simplicity of folk music with the nuance of chamber music.

Evert Taube (1890—1976) is one of Sweden’s most beloved troubadours. More than a poet and musician, he was also a painter, traveler, and nature writer. His songs gave voice to a bygone Sweden — and to the world beyond the horizon: Argentina, the Mediterranean, and the seven seas.

Taube’s timeless music shares the stage with chamber works by composers such as Erland von Koch and Cleas Ottelid. Influences from Swedish folk music and Taube’s poetic world run throughout the performance. It will be an afternoon where lyricism meets playfulness, and the Swedish song tradition is brought to life in contemporary form.
