Chamber Music: Turn-of-the-Century Stockholm
Date: March 2026
Time: –
Location: City Museum, Auditorium floor 2
Price: 150–300 SEK
Travel back to Stockholm around the year 1900 together with three of Sweden’s most sought-after instrumentalists: Carron, Skareng and Härenstam.
During the afternoon’s program, turn-of-the-century Stockholm is reflected through music by, among others, Wilhelm Petterson Berger, Hugo Alfvén, and Alice Tegnér.
We will also hear music that was popular among the people of Stockholm at that time, such as works by Carl Michael Bellman, masterfully arranged with variations by Ulf G. Åhslund.
The duo Carron/Skareng has been active for a long time. Over the years, they have built a broad and varied repertoire, spanning from the Baroque era to contemporary music. Two joint CDs have been released on the Caprice label: “Play Italian Music” and “Café 1930”, the latter featuring music by, among others, Piazzolla.

During this concert, the duo occasionally expands into a trio together with guitarist David Härenstam.
Musicians
Tobias Carron, flute
Carron studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at the Juilliard School in New York. At only 18 years old, he made his debut with the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under Yuri Ahronovitch. After a long career as principal flutist with, among others, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, he is now a professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at the School of Music in Piteå.
Per Skareng, guitar
After receiving his soloist diploma and debuting with Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez”, along with a series of successes at international guitar competitions, Skareng has established himself as one of the foremost guitarists in the Nordic countries. His recordings on the Caprice label, such as “El Colibri” and “Café 1930”, have received great acclaim.
David Härenstam, guitar
Härenstam is widely recognized for his acclaimed recordings, earning praise from critics who have called him “one of the leading guitarists of his generation,” while Classical Guitar Magazine (USA) describes his playing as “technical wizardry.” A student of Professor John Mills, Härenstam holds an Advanced Diploma from the Welsh College of Music and Drama. He serves as the artistic director of two chamber music festivals and has toured extensively across China, Australia, and Europe.
This event is made possible with support from the Swedish Arts Council.
