Dive into a full day of international storytelling. Enjoy stories about city life, food culture, darkness and the world of the Kalevala — plus a mythological storytelling battle!
Together with Berättarnätet Öst, we’re laying on a generous storytelling buffet with experiences for children and adults alike.
Program
Paola Balbi and Davide Bardi perform at the Storytelling Soup.
12—1 pm Storytelling Lunch (English)
Auditorium, floor 2 Ticket: SEK 150
Food stories from around the world. Five international storytellers share far more than flavours — memories, traditions and glimpses of life behind the food. Served with a hearty tomato soup with croutons, herbs and garlic (vegan without croutons). Water/lemonade.
Storytellers: Paola Balbi, Davide Bardi, Laura Escuela, Monique Burg, Anita Santesson and Annemarie Krarup.
11.30 am—12 pm & 1.30—2 pm Stories in the Dark for Children (Swedish)
Källarstugan, floor 1. Ages 7+ Ticket: SEK 50
The lights go out and you’re guided to your seat. Lean back and let your senses come alive. Sounds sharpen, voices emerge from different corners of the room. Stories of myth and magic, somewhere between reality and imagination.
Storytellers: Anders Holmberg, Kerstin de Verdier and Ulrika Marusarz.
Blindfolded, we’re led into Källarstugan. The door closes and a deep darkness draws around us. Time stands still. Four storytellers’ voices emerge, weaving us into a web of stories. We meet in the space between near and far.
Storytellers: Anders Holmberg, Frida Spång, Isa Schöier, Tore Haglund, Karin Lundengård and Anita Santesson..
Salongen, floor 1 For young people Ticket: SEK 150
A workshop for young people curious about the art of storytelling. Join a creative journey to discover your own storytelling voice. Through play and exercises, explore why we tell stories — and how your own stories can move, inspire and live on.
2—4 pm Worlds Between the Ears — Storytelling with Children (English)
Auditorium, floor 2 Ticket: SEK 250
A storytelling workshop for adults: bring stories to life. Take a traditional tale and make it your own, with imagination and words. For children, stories open doors to new worlds and strengthen both language and creativity. This workshop is for teachers, storytellers and anyone working with children aged 4—11. We’ll practise storytelling technique, rhythm, rhyme and repetition to capture and inspire young listeners. If you love performing for children, this is your chance to get a real head start!
2.30—4.30 pm City Stories from Around the World (English)
In the exhibition on floor 2 All ages. Free admission
Design your own festival route across an entire floor. Storytellers from every corner of the world are waiting in the exhibition rooms. Hear tales of city life: theatre, nightlife, city streets, factories — and hat fashion. You choose what to listen to and for how long!
Storytellers: Silvia Freund Naemi Schmidt-Lauber, Sven Tjaben and more.
An award-winning performance of stories from the Kalevala for adults. Learn how the sun and moon were stolen and imprisoned in the northern mountain. The storyteller brings us the old Väinö, who crafted his harp from fishbones, and the mighty smith Ilmarinen, swinging his hammer to forge new light for the heavens.
7.30—9.30 pm MythOff — A Storytelling Battle in Mythology (English)
City Museum courtyard Ticket: SEK 150 (see combination ticket offer below)
A thrilling storytelling battle pitting Nordic mythology against the myths of the world. Cheer, laugh and applaud your favourites. Can Italy’s gods score points against Thor and Odin? How do the Hungarian tales fare? Come and witness a divine showdown!
