The exhibition “Prized Craft” is a tribute to textile crafts and artisanal skills. It celebrates craftsmanship, artistic expression, and the power of meaningful storytelling. For 30 years, Föreningen för Svensk Hemslöjd, the Association for Swedish Handicraft, has awarded scholarships to professional artisans, encouraging their continued creativity and well-deserved recognition.

This exhibition showcases 27 works by the association’s scholarship recipients, including winners of the Mimmi Börjesson Embroidery
Scholarship, the Innovator of the Year Award, and the Swedish Handicraft Scholarship in Memory of Gun Cedergren, spanning from 1994 to today.

The works range from the finest threads and intricate patterns to bold, contemporary forms, reflecting each recipient’s unique expression. Together, these pieces form a tapestry — a multifaceted narrative of craft, brimming with ideas, messages, color, time, and dedication.

Svensk Hemslöjd

The pioneer Lilli Zickerman founded Föreningen för Svensk Hemslöjd with the Swedish Prince Eugen in 1899. In a time when women had just started to partake in public life, Lilli Zickerman was an entrepreneur and cultural person with high standards in ethics and social responsibility. She documented the craft in Sweden and had ideas of how poor farmers with craft skills could support themselves and get better lives.

The boutique Svensk Hemslöjd started at the same time and has been situated in the same part of Stockholm for 125 years. Since its start, the association has been part of Swedish cultural history, a trendsetter, and the hub around which Swedish crafts revolved. With feeling, commitment, and knowledge, the legacy of founder Lilli Zickerman is managed to this day.
