The museum runs several research projects on Stockholm’s history and contemporary life. We work with universities and other higher education institutions in many different ways.
Different fields of research come together
Researchers from different fields work at the City Museum. These include archaeology, ethnology, history and art history.
They share an interest in Stockholm. Our collections of memories and objects contain many sources that have not yet been explored. We also offer services for researchers and work with other research institutions.
Organisation and collaboration
Stockholm City Museum is part of the Museums and Art Department. The department has a research council and runs several research projects.
We work with academic institutions and cultural heritage organisations. We organise seminars and conferences. Research findings are shared through publications, exhibitions and public programmes.
We also manage the City of Stockholm’s PRISMA account for research applications.
Microhistorical research
The Center for Microhistorical Research is a platform for developing methods and researching the history of the city. It focuses on people, objects and events rather than major historical developments.
We work with the Center for Microhistorical Research at the University of Iceland.

Stockholmia — research and publishing
Stockholmia has been promoting and sharing research about Stockholm since 1936. It publishes illustrated non-fiction about the city.
