Chamber Music: Bandoneon, Strings and Guitar

Date:  March 2027

Time: –

Location: City Museum, Auditorium floor 2

Price: 160–320 SEK

Hear Astor Piazzolla’s much-loved tango music in new arrangements for bandoneon, guitar and strings. The soloists are Jens Lundberg and David Härenstam.

When Astor Piazzolla revolutionised tango, he created a new musical language. His music brings together Argentine tango, classical music, jazz, rock and improvisation.

The concert celebrates the legendary composer with some of his best-loved works. These include Adiós Nonino, Milonga del Ángel and Oblivion.

You will also hear Piazzolla’s concerto Hommage à Liège for bandoneon, guitar and strings. Jens Lundberg and David Härenstam are the soloists, joined by the Dahlkvist String Quintet.

The concert was sold out two months in advance when it was performed at Riddarhuset in 2026. Now you have another chance to experience the music. Whether you missed it then or simply want to hear it again.

Musicians

Jens Lundberg, bandoneon

Jens Lundberg is considered one of Europe’s leading bandoneon players. He studied with the Argentine master Juan José Mosalini in Paris.

He has also studied tango in Buenos Aires with several leading tango musicians. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed across Europe, Japan and Argentina. Lundberg is known for his expressive playing and strong command of the style.

David Härenstam, guitar

Härenstam is widely recognized for his recordings, earning praise from critics who have called him “one of the leading guitarists of his generation”, while Classical Guitar Magazine (USA) describes his playing as “technical wizardry”.

A student of Professor John Mills, Härenstam holds an Advanced Diploma from the Welsh College of Music and Drama. He serves as the artistic director of two chamber music festivals and has toured across China, Australia, and Europe.

Dahlkvist String Quintet

The Dahlkvist String Quintet is one of Sweden’s most sought-after string ensembles. The ensemble rose to prominence after winning the Young & Promising competition.

It has since established an international reputation. The quintet has performed at leading concert halls across Europe and made a Grammy Award-winning recording.
